Portraits of a Pandemic – The front lines of the fight against COVID-19
THE PROJECT
Brazil was one of the countries most affected by covid-19, being the 2nd in number of deaths. In addition, the country suffered a large wave of fake news and denialism by the government of that time.
Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, a reference in health in Latin America and responsible for the first positive diagnosis of the virus in the country, identified the importance of recording this chapter in human history in a factful documentary to present the real dimension of the facts, the backstage of private and public hospitals and the actions of healthcare professionals in this battle for life. Something to be seen, revisited and never forgotten for generations.
In this effort, March 2020 marked the beginning of the recording of “Portraits of a Pandemic – The front lines of the fight against COVID-19”, a project that you will learn about in detail now.

RECORDINGS
Filming for the documentary series began in 2020, shortly after the confirmation of the first COVID-19 case in Brazil by Hospital Albert Einstein.
A team of documentary filmmakers was invited to record, over more than 2 years of the pandemic, the day-to-day life of the clinical staff and other healthcare professionals in its two private units, in São Paulo and Goiânia, and in the public units managed by the institution.
In numbers, there were more than 70 days of recordings and 140 interviews that resulted in a rich and moving documentary – which was later adapted to a series format.
THE SERIES
A Hospital Albert Einstein series, the documentary is a co-production of Vbrand and Cine Group, with artistic and content supervision by Eduardo Rajabally; and depicts, in parallel, five plots on different themes that emerged during the pandemic.
WATCH ON GLOBOPLAYSERIES - HEALTH - 2022
The pre-launch took place on March 8th, 2022, for 120 special guests, including healthcare professionals and Albert Einstein Hospital leaders (many of whom participated in the recordings). Exclusive cinema sessions were also held for employees of various public health units.
